George Plimpton, writer and editor of the Paris Review, wrote as a participatory journalist. Plimpton experienced life as a Philharmonic percussionist, race car driver, trapeze artist, competitive swimmer and all-star pitcher. Locally, he went undercover as quarterback for the Detroit Lions, and the book “Paper Lion" was born.
Filmmakers Tom Bean and Luke Poling documented Plimpton’s life in, “Plimpton! Starring George Plimpton as Himself,” which debuted in May on PBS. Y Arts Detroit is screening the film to raise funds for arts programs for youth/families.
The filmmakers from NYC will be hosting a Q&A after the screening.
