Omar Sosa

He may not be a household name, but Cuban-born world traveler Omar Sosa’s accomplishments are much bigger than name recognition. The seven-time Grammy-nominated pianist and recipient of the Smithsonian lifetime achievement award, Sosa returns with his band Quarteto AfroCubano for two shows in one night. Known for his vibrant globe-hopping fusion of traditional jazz, Latin rhythms, North African beats, and Afro-cubano, Sosa’s impressive 25-plus discography and world-renowned avant-garde approach to composition prove that he can’t be contained by labels or zip codes.

Doors open at 8 and 10 p.m.; 350 Madison St., Detroit; 313-887-8501;; Tickets are $30.
