More Kops

As we’ve just seen, Detroit isn’t the only city having a problem with its police officers shooting people. All eyes have been on Cincinnati in recent days, where rioting broke out after a cop there shot yet another unarmed black man. Although he was talking about the situation in Ohio, DeLacy Davis — a 15-year police veteran in New Jersey who founded the group Black Cops Against Police Brutality — could have been talking about Motown when he said on Good Friday: “I’m a police officer, but the police cannot police the police. Until there’s a crisis, these issues are ignored, then we begin to see a system respond to their pain — and then only in incremental steps.” (Read more about the issue in Keith A. Owens’ column.)
