After a near century of “at-large” representation in city government, Detroit voters are returning to a system where their concerns will be addressed by their neighbors. With seven districts (and two remaining at-large members), next year’s city council will see more than half its members being seated for the first time.
In this week’s issue, meet your new council members by district (see the list in the sidebar) and discover what those districts look like, by the numbers. We also shined the MT spotlight on two new members: District No. 6’s Raquel Castañeda-Lopez and District No. 7’s Gabe Leland.
