Medicine Tribe Presents - Nahko: My Name Is Bear

When: Wed., Oct. 25, 7 p.m. 2017
Price: $25
Born in Portland, Nahko Bear (Nahkohe Parayno) is of Apache, Puerto Rican, and Filipino background. A festival favorite, Nahko and his band Medicine for the People made their debut in 2013 with the album "Dark as Night," which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Top Alternative Albums chart. Promoting a powerful musical message of sustainability built from multinational and multicultural styles, Nahko and Medicine for the People have had their music called "thump-hop," a percussion-based sound that includes plenty of room for the spoken word. "As a musical collective," says Nahko, "our mission is to be the motivation and inspiration for all that have become members of our Tribe. Within our global community, we have access to the tools needed to make changes, take action and spread awareness of how to live in harmony with Mother Gaia herself. We are honored to be a force of attraction for positive and creative minds during these often-corrupt times. … 'Hoka Hey' means today is a good day to die,' but perhaps with your help, it could transform into a better day to live. … Tribe members, let us come together today to be the change that we wish to see tomorrow." Nahko comes to Michigan with a new release, "My Name Is Bear."

This show takes place at the Majestic Theatre, 4140 Woodward, Detroit. Co-presented with AEG Live.
