Material: A solo exhibition by HENSE

Known internationally as HENSE, Alex Brewer got his start as a graffiti artist as a teen in Atlanta. Now in his mid-30s, Brewer has honed his skills and crafted a brightly colored mixed-media collection that will be on display at Detroit’s Library Street Collective. Brewer employed plywood, ink, screws, and graphite alongside house, acrylic, and spray paints to create the vibrant pieces to be displayed. “Material is an important part of what I do creatively,” he notes in a press release about the show, continuing to say: “These new paintings on panel are really similar to a collage-based process in that I’m adding and subtracting the forms until I get to a finished state.”
