Raised in Michigan and currently residing in New Orleans, Luke Winslow-King is a talented young singer, slide guitarist, producer, and songwriter. His work is an update of the kind of eclectic approach tht Jim White takes, throwing together blues, folk, jazz, and roots elements with a modern twist. His songs are both rustic and elegant, his delivery that of a singer far older. His excellent new album was just released by Chicago’s stalwart Bloodshot label. It was recorded in rural Italy last year and completed in New Orleans this year. The artist describes it as “an instructional on how to survive true heartbreak,” so we’ll just have to take his word on that.
