Everyone should see a Los Lobos show at least once every five years, even if you don’t own any of their records. That’s because they have such a deep catalog of terrific songs, played with skill, passion, and soul. And when you see them, you understand that they are not only representing multiple traditions within Mexico and in the Southern California diaspora of that culture, and not only did they arise from the vibrant Chicano punk/alt scene of the late 1970s and Slash magazine, and all that stuff. But this is a much better jam band than any of the bros who get offered up as such. The only problem is that the boomers around you might start hippie dancing, so just close your eyes and get lost.
