Let’s not talk about name changes, but rather what makes Detroit’s superstars of indie-pop so special: the songs. Sweet, infections gems that lodge themselves inside your brain and threaten to never leave. The artists formerly known as Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr have not lost any of their ability to write killer pop hooks and to just make you forget about your troubles. And while it’s a bit weird that “In the Middle” and “James Dean” off their new, eponymous album aren’t massive hits, we all know and love them and will loudly and earnestly shout along. See you there.
