We blame American film director, screenwriter, producer, editor, and composer John Carpenter for turning a repetitive piano progression into the chill-inducing soundtrack of our wildest nightmares. Of course we are referring to his 1978 slasher classic Halloween, a film that challenged a genre and has successfully scared the living shit out of us ever since. But Carpenter is so much more than his Halloween legacy. He is inarguably one of the most influential visionaries in American cinema. Keep the spirit of Halloween alive all year with this rare opportunity to watch the Master of Horror at work as he performs tracks from his recent solo anthology Lost Themes and other film compositions.

Doors open at 8 p.m.; 4114 Vernor Hwy., Detroit; 313-436-1793; elclubdetroit.com; Tickets start at $55.
