In Words and Music : A Harlem Renaissance Centennial Celebration

The Carr Center is producing a four-part series of events commemorating the centennial anniversary of The Harlem Renaissance. The first concert of the series will take audiences on a journey from the spirituals, opera arias, harmonic masterpieces, art songs, and poetry of early composers and writers such as Scott Joplin, Hall Johnson and Harry T. Burleigh. Maestro Damien Sneed returns to Detroit, leading a gifted ensemble of classical chamber musicians in this debut exploration of music from 1860 to 1930, for strings, piano and voice, that led up to the explosion of Black artistic creativity in the 1920s.
