The elements of style

Almost every major university in Michigan is near at least a few stores that students can save money at.

Ann Arbor: Sam's Basic Clothing has been in Ann Arbor for nearly 70 years and appeals to Michigan students and Ann Arbor locals alike. Whether you're chanting "Go Blue!" on Saturdays or not, you can find cheap clothing for yourself and your friends.

Dearborn: Jimmy Jazz in Fairlane Mall is also a chain, but it's a chain that sells urban style gear that will stay nice all semester. If you're looking to go the name-brand route without spending a fortune, Jimmy Jazz might be the right store to drop by before classes start.

Detroit: St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store has a good selection of used clothing received through donations. Of course, Wayne State students have many options within the city to find cheap clothing, but shopping at St. Vincent De Paul comes with the satisfaction of knowing you're assisting a nonprofit organization devoted to helping Detroit. With two locations within Detroit and 13 total in the metro area, St. Vincent's thrift stores are synonymous with giving back in Detroit.

East Lansing: Plato's Closet may not be exactly unique to the East Lansing area, but it certainly provides Michigan State students and EL townies a place to get cheap threads and even to make some money. Like every Plato's Closet, this East Lansing store is a place to not only buy used clothing for low prices, but also to make some cash off gently used clothes.

Kalamazoo: Bermo Wholesale Enterprises has been giving the Western Michigan students nice clothing without costing them too much for more than 40 years now. Offering clothing for both men and women, Bermo has been a Broncos mainstay for so long because it gives students clothing that they can actually afford after paying for books and rent.

Mount Pleasant: Rue 21 is one of the hidden gems for Central Michigan students, existing only blocks away from campus. Rue 21 offers clothing for men and women that is both affordable and stylish. While there are thrift stores in Mt. Pleasant, Rue 21 has a larger selection for people of varying sizes and age groups that make this store the one to shop at when trying to get outfits for the fall.
