Holiday Window Walk 2017

When: Thu., Nov. 9 2017
Lawrence Technological University’s Detroit Center for Design + Technology (DCDT) is getting into the holiday spirit early this year. Local businesses and designers are encouraged to join in. The DCDT Design Incubator is calling for local artists, designers and Detroit businesses to come together in an effort to transform the holiday themed windows of 10 business locations within the city this holiday shopping season.

Businesses interested in participating may apply by emailing their business name, contact, address and the amount of window space they will devote to dcdt@detroit.design. Apply no later than Friday, Sept. 29, 2017.

Designers interested in creating a window display with a participating business owner should send in a name, resume details, contact information, a 100 word description on why you want to be a competitor and up to 3 examples of past work. Send all information via email to dcdt@detroit.design. Apply no later than Friday, Sept. 29, 2017.

There is a cost of up to $500 to businesses chosen to participate – which will be used in full for design materials per location. Designers are expected to work within this budget, provide receipts for materials used, and may not exceed it.

Applications will be reviewed, then the 2017 locations and designers will be chosen and announced in time for an early October start. Work is expected to begin at participating businesses on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017. Displays must be completed and set to be unveiled to the public at each business on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017. The public is encouraged to enjoy and visit the displays throughout the holiday shopping season. Posting on social networks with the hashtag #DCDTHoliday will be presented to judges, who will announce the winning business and designer - and distribute cash prizes - in early December.

The DCDT's Design Incubator hosts programs and provides resources meant to support the development of businesses in the city of Detroit. Its efforts are focused on enhancing opportunities for creative and technology sectors. This event will spotlight those efforts while working to bring the community together throughout the city.

The Detroit Center for Design + Technology is the home of Lawrence Technological University College of Architecture and Design’s Detroit programs. Situated in Midtown along Woodward Avenue, DCDT programs provide additional opportunities to engage organizations, professionals, students and groups within the city. Its Design Incubator is set to launch in 2017 and features these programs: a DCDT Business Accelerator, DCDT Coworking Space, DCDT Design Studio and a DCDT Fellowship Program.
