Funds for fecundity

Artists who are Michigan residents working in the visual arts, theater, dance, architecture, opera/musical theater, inter/multidisciplinary and traditional arts could get pretty excited by the latest round of grants being made available by ArtServe Michigan. Each year, the independent statewide organization administers funds from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs in the form of Creative Artist Grants — up to $8,000 per project — to those selected in a two-step review process. To obtain Step One applications for this year’s eligible disciplines, send a self-addressed envelope (9 inches-by-12 inches or larger, bearing 55 cents in postage) to CAG FY02, ArtServe Michigan, 17515 W. Nine Mile Road, Suite 1025, Southfield, MI 48075-4426. Or you can download the application from www.artservemichigan.org. Any details unclear? Call Christine Schefman, the director of artist services, at 248-557-8288, ext. 14 or e-mail her at [email protected]. Deadline for step one is Thursday, May 17, 5 p.m. Support like this is rare enough, as most any artist will tell you.
