Free Book Giveaway at Sister Pie

shutterstock.
It’s a sad stat: According to a report from the National Institute for Literacy, an estimated 47 percent of Detroit’s adults are functionally illiterate. This cannot stand. Since 2016, Blackbird Literacy has done their part to reverse that trend and promote reading skills through its book drives, and this weekend they’re partnering with Sister Pie. We’re told they’ve got boxes and boxes of books, including history, fiction, young adult, and kids books. We’re also told all books must be given away, so come hungry (for literature, but also Sister Pie’s famous confections). More information on the group is available at blackbirdlit.org.
