What is it that makes Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 so special? Maybe it's that the folks behind this iconic brand don't follow an exact recipe. By its scent, it's color, and it's flavor, they just know when a barrel is ready to be bottled. That's how Jack Daniel knew his whiskey was ready.
Founded in Lynchburg, Tenn. in 1875, the whiskey brand is still headquartered in that Southern town. While the Tennessee whiskey qualifies as a straight bourbon, the folks behind the brand prefer the simpler classification. According to their website, Jack Daniel's is dripped drop by drop "through 10 feet of firmly packed charcoal (made from hard sugar maple) before going into new charred oak barrels for aging." This process gives Jack Daniel's Tennesee Whiskey its rare smoothness.
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 will be available in several cocktails at Pig & Whiskey's Cocktail Corner July 17-19 in downtown Ferndale.
2 parts Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
1 tablespoon simple syrup 1 mint spring crushed
Muddle mint leaf with simple syrup in the bottom of a mixing glass, add crushed ice. Add Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 and stir gently. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
