Local jazz-funk project, Disaster Relief, features many rising stars of the Ann Arbor and Detroit jazz scenes. Their self-title debut provides relief from the tragedy and negativity of the world. Drawing on a wide range of funky sources, from James Brown to Fela Kuti, the band boasts a hard hitting four-piece horn section and balances tightly composed syncopation with plenty of free improvisation.
