Dining in the Dark

Our five senses...sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. Most of us take them for granted, and effortlessly combine them to produce our daily sensory experiences. But what happens if, just for one evening, we give our visual sense a rest? What if we rely only on taste, smell, touch, and sound to produce vivid imagery that might elevate an ordinary experience into the extraordinary? On Wednesday, May 4th, Dining in the Dark Detroit will offer attendees the chance to do just that – to temporarily abandon their sense of sight in order to put their remaining senses to the test. The three-hour experience will feature a delectable four-course dinner presented by Chef Tim Castañeda of Zúmba Mexican Catering at the Great Lakes Culinary Center in Southfield. Guests will be masked in a candlelit room, and will immerse themselves in the tastes, aromas, textures and sounds of a creative “Cinco de Mayo’ gourmet meal. Dining in the Dark Detroit promises to be a deliciously different dining experience perfect for a romantic night out or a fun evening with friends. The prix fixe experience - which includes four courses and a handcrafted Mexican cucumber martini featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka - is priced at $55 (excluding additional beverages and gratuity). Sponsors also include Treat Dreams custom/homemade ice cream and Don Marcos tortilla chips. After the meal a cash bar will be offered, and guests will have the opportunity to meet the Chef, discover their menu through photos and to discuss the experience. Check in 6:30. Dinner begins at 7pm. Advance reservations required:
