An event geared toward outdoorsy Detroiters will make its launch later this month.

"Mappy Hour," originally founded in 2014 in New York City, is set to make its Detroit debut on Wednesday, April 25. Organizers describe the event as "a gathering of outdoor enthusiasts around maps, guidebooks, beer, and adventure stories."

The event is set from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 at the True North Quonset hut community (4719 16th St., hut No. 8, Detroit). It will feature a presentation by the Detroit Greenway Coalition, who will share Detroit bicycling maps and discuss the history and future of greenways in the city. Beer will be provided by Eastern Market Brewing Co.

"This event has grown over the past years from Austin, Texas, to D.C. and finally to Detroit," founder Sarah Knapp says via email. "We are working hard to build a strong community of nature, adventure, and sports enthusiasts by bringing together those with a shared passion for the outdoors."
