Detroit man attacked with samurai sword

Detroit police are searching for a man and his samurai sword-wielding accomplice, who allegedly used the weapon to attack a local man earlier this week.

According to various reports, a man was walking near Joy Road and Stout on the city's far west side shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday when he was suddenly approached by a man and woman, the latter brandishing a sword.

For no clear reason, the woman took a swing at the victim, leaving a 5-inch gash in his head. The pair then fled the scene without further incident.

“It is different,” Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson told The Detroit News. “I’ve not heard of anyone using a sword to commit a crime; a knife and handgun, but not a sword.”

The victim was taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Anyone who is missing their samurai sword or who has additional information, please call the Detroit Police Department at (313) 596-2300.
