Regardless of how you feel about it, the city of Detroit is changing at a rapid pace. Dutch photographer Corine Vermeulen explores the intervention between revival and history with dual Detroit exhibitions, Kodak and the Comet. Vermeulen, who graduated with an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, has captured Detroit’s landscape through film and has altered negatives with household chemicals to create a conversation about conservation. In addition to Kodak and the Comet, Vermeulen will show work from a new series, titled Nachtwerk, which consists of intimate and surreal portraits captured while traveling through Colombia.
Opening reception begins at 6 p.m.; 1520 Washington Blvd., Detroit; dkgallery.com; Event is free and open to the public.
