When: Sat., Aug. 29, 3 p.m. 2015
Learn about the historical identities of Detroit neighborhoods, in jeopardy of cultural rebranding, through the art of story telling. On August 29, take a bike tour through Core City and the surrounding neighborhoods. The tour will include 8 stops where 8 residents of the area will use their porch as a stage to tell their story about the history of their neighborhood as they know it. The tour aims to rise awareness about the unique assets in Core City: the people, and to launch a city-wide discussion about the culture of exclusion and displacement as it relates to rebranding and gentrification. Councilwoman Lopez and Congresswoman Chang will kick-off the bike tour with a greeting, as well as participate in a panel discussion about smart development vs gentrification. Gratitude is extended to Mitch Albom (who filmed a meeting for the Heart of Detroit program), Rochelle Riley, Model D and DVoice. The event is still looking for food vendors and for bike donations.
