Chug-a-lug

News Hits received a lovely drinking vessel from the good city of Detroit’s Water and Sewerage Department last week. The 25-ounce container is part of a promotion to get people drinking what’s billed to be the “champagne of municipal drinking water.” Ah, yes. It has no legs, but there is a lovely chlorine bouquet. Far be it from News Hits to look a gift mug in the mouth — and forgive us if we seem more persnickety than usual here — but there is something just a bit off-putting about gulping down mouthfuls of good ol’ H20 while staring at the word “SEWERAGE” emblazoned in blue across the mug as part of the department’s logo. Try as we might, we couldn’t shake the thought that it was giving a whole new meaning to the phrase “bottoms up!”
