Celebrating Black History Month: A. Spencer Barefield Sextet Plays Great Jazz in Palmer Woods

Guitarist/composer A. Spencer Barefield leads an extraordinary multigenerational ensemble with drummer Sean Dobbins, saxophonists Marcus Elliot & Rafael Statin, bassist Jeff Pedraz, and pianist Ian Finkelstein. They'll perform works by legendary Black composers and trailblazers, including recently departed giants Geri Allen and Muhal Richard Abrams, and decades of works by Barefield commissioned by Kresge Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer, MCACA, and others. The concert is held in a magnificent Palmer Woods Tudor filled with Africa, Asia & 20th-21st Century African-America art. A soul-inspired meal is served during intermission with chicken, mac n cheese, greens, peach cobbler.
