Cafe Expressions (phone disconnected)

Located near the University of Detroit campus, Café Expressions provides an intimate cultural setting. There's a different theme almost every night: Mondays and Wednesdays are open-mic poetry, Tuesdays are "freestyle" night, Thursdays are open-mic for music, comedy and poetry, and there's live jazz every Friday and Saturday. Their special iced coffees contain fresh fruit, which make them good to drink in the summer heat. Co-owner Whitney Peace recommends their popular "coffee crush," as well as the strawberry delight, honey-iced coffee, and banana coffee crush. There's a $3 cover charge every evening from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Special discounts are available for college students.
