Bird Bash

Celebrating the life and times of Detroit Tigers legend Mark "The Bird" Fidrych. For one magical summer night in the American bicentennial of 1976, "The Bird" burst onto the baseball scene and took the country by storm. At just 21 years old, this genuine American character brought innocence, spontaneity, and unadulterated joy to baseball and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, winning the Rookie of the Year and gracing the covers of both Sports Illustrated and Rolling Stone. Although The Bird's career was cut short by injury, his spirit live on in the hearts of baseball fans everywhere. Join the Navin Field Grounds Crew, along with author Dan Epstein (Big Hair & Plastic Grass), former Tigers Dave Rozema and Ike Blessitt, and the legion of Birdbrains in the shadow of old Tigers Stadium at Nemo's Bar & Grill, and help celebrate the birth of The Bird. Admission is free. Suggested donation is $10 and benefits Wertz Warriors and the Mark Fidrych Foundation.
