Okay, it’s the only Venezuelan place in the area, but worth a visit not just to expand one’s Latin restaurant horizons but for the sheer charm of the place, a former corner bar on a residential street now decorated in the colors of the Venezuelan flag. The national dishes are all done proud: arepas plain or stuffed with cheese, beans, roast pork, tender chicharrones, or a priceless chorizo; intensely corn-flavored cachapas; pabellon with black beans, shredded beef and sweet fried plantains. And a final standout could win El Rey “best Colombian,” too: the bandeja paisa, which arranges everything good on a platter and tops it with a fried egg.
