Perhaps Detroiters have some mayoral fatigue. Awhile back, we had a businessman in Dennis Archer who got nothing done. Then Detroiters ushered in so-called Hip Hop Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who got everything done — just not the right things. We had the Three-Month Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr., who didn’t have the chance to get anything done. And then we elected a sort-of mummified businessman who struggled to show he was actually doing something. So, maybe it’s a good thing we seem to have a robust, energetic leader in office — even if he’s one who has an appointed official who holds the sweeping powers with the final say over virtually everything.
