It’s hard to get food late at night in the metro Detroit area. Sure, there are coneys, but even some of them close, and after 2 a.m. almost everywhere else is shuttered (after midnight in some areas.) Good thing there’s Hippie’s Pizza, open and delivering until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 a.m. the rest of the week. Yes, they’re local to Royal Oak, but worth the drive if you’re in need of pizza. The menu is expansive, and friendly to almost any dietary restriction: There’s vegan cheese and gluten-free crust. On top of that, the variety is mind-blowing. You can start with five different styles of crust, not including all the various butters and flavors that can be applied. Then there are the calzones, sandwiches, salads, wings and desserts; they’ll even make a 7-11 run for you on the way to deliver. Best of all, it’s all reliably delicious and prepared fresh. Sure, the place is small and hidden behind a gas station, but often, that’s the best sort of pizzeria.
