The lively and talkative Castañeda-López has come out of the gate strong since winning her seat in Detroit City Council’s 6th District. In the few months since taking office, she’s been at the forefront of discussions surrounding the new Detroit Red Wings arena downtown and appears deeply invested in her new role. Castañeda-López, the first woman of Latin American heritage to win a seat on the council, comes off as the type of person voting by district is supposed to attract — that is, someone concerned about providing community services. Our dear readers must appreciate the charisma brimming from the 31-year-old lifelong Detroiter.
