Since 1973, back when what's now BDT first opened in Sterling Heights, the store has been evolving with the changing times, and has earned its honors. It has expanded to four shops, and has garnered readers' honors in our Best of Detroit competition 10 out of the last 13 years. Most recently, the Hazel Park flagship store was visited by none other than Tommy Chong, where the mayor of the Hazel Park dropped by to give the cannabis-fueled comedian the keys to the city. That goes to show you BDT has gone from countercultural upstart to city institution in just 42 years.
