Almost five years ago, Johnny Jenkins and his business partner Frederick Douglas began experimenting with the Jenkins family's sweet potato pie recipes. With a little help from Detroit Kitchen Connect, the team began branching out from miniature pies into sweet potato truffles, brownies with blueberry sauce, and more, often gluten-free, vegan, and sugarless. Not bad for a kid from northern Louisiana who used to turn up his nose at sweet potato pie.
