Brunch comes in many flavor profiles, from the cream-cheese-and-salmon to the steak-and-eggs, from fruit-and-cream to death-by-chocolate. There are many great brunch plates to be had, but few are as indulgent as the “Red Velvet” offerings at Addison Eatery. The batter is rich and red, marbling like brocade as it cooks, then dusted with cocoa powder and garnished with vanilla cream cheese and fresh whipped cream. The waffles have a perfect texture, crisp and slightly chewy, soaking up syrup and providing ample places to spread soft cream cheese. The pancakes, smooth and flat, griddled expertly, are a testament to the short-order skills at work in the kitchen. In both, that familiar red velvet flavor is exactly replicated, a bite of childhood. Order a side of sausage, a mimosa, and enjoy. Consider a second plate if you’re hungry — they are indeed that good.
