Torn down — Maurice Greenia Jr. is a local "poetician" with lots to say about the city in both pen and paint. So make time in these next few weeks to check out his latest exhibition: Drawing on the Hudson Building 1996-1997. It's a show of photographs and other materials related to the artist's renegade project, which began 10 years ago as a response to a broken promise. See, the city had commissioned artists to paint murals on the abandoned department store but then promptly painted over them.
"I took this as a sign of disrespect towards the artists," Greenia says. "So I started drawing on the building in different colored chalk." He covered it on all sides with more than 500 drawings. This exhibition was documented by fellow artists Robert Huffman, Maureen Maki and others. Built up — We recently received word of a renovation to the Northville Art House, a center owned by the city, which now includes a new 1,000-square-foot gallery. The first show is curated by CAID Gallery Director Aaron Timlin, and features Kristin Beaver, Mitch Cope, Sergio De Giusti, Dick Goody, Ray Katz, Frank Pahl, Mary Potts and Clinton Snider.
