An Evening with Stanley Nelson Staff Pick

When: Thu., March 1, 7:30 p.m. 2018
Price: $9.50 General Admission, $7.50 seniors, students, DIA members
Winner of Peabody and Emmy Awards, as well as a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship (“genius grant”), documentary director, writer and producer Stanley Nelson has created a body of work that includes Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Universities and Colleges (2017); The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution (2015); Freedom Riders (2010); The Murder of Emmett Till (2003) and Wounded Knee (2009). For his in-person visit to the DFT, Mr. Nelson has chosen to screen one of the most fascinating films of his career: Jonestown: The Life and Death of the Peoples Temple. Broadcast by PBS in 2006, Jonestown remains eloquent, chilling and utterly relevant. The screening will be introduced by Mr. Nelson, and at its conclusion he’ll discuss the film with the audience. Stanley Nelson’s presentation is made possible by the Bob Allison (Allesee) Endowed Chair in Media at Wayne State University’s Department of Communication, College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.
