Alt-J’s new record is (much) less original than their first

Now Hear ThisEnglish rockers Alt-J released their first album in 2012. An Awesome Wave melded genres and blew our minds. From "Tessellate" to "Dissolve Me" to "Fitzpleasure," the album served as a whole, which is a mark many new bands miss. Lead singer Joe Newman provided cartoonish vocals while Thom Green and Gus Unger-Hamilton filled out the group's sound with equal parts surf rock and ethereal, sparkly synth. For their innovation and unique sound they were heralded as the new Radiohead. Now comes the band's second album. This Is All Yours leaves us wondering if Alt-J didn't blow their collective load on their first album. It's 14 tracks long and nothing screams out to the listener or begs for a replay. If anything, it sounds like a regurgitated and less-original version of their first record. Is that the exact same riff in "Every Other Freckle" as in "Fitzpleasure"? What happened to the innovation?
