Thirty-five-year-old composer Jonathan Larson spent seven painstaking years perfecting Rent. Tragically, Larson died unexpectedly of an aortic aneurysm on the eve of the show’s first public performance at the NYTW, never to know that his dream had been realized. As part of its 25th anniversary season, the Department of Musical Theatre at U-M will present their production of this Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of eight young artists in New York City during the ’90s struggling to survive and create under the specter of AIDS.
