Sunday, May 28, and Monday, May 29, Hometown parades: What's not to love — in a fuddy-duddy sort of way? On Sunday in St. Clair Shores and on Monday in Northville, Madison Heights, Dearborn, Sterling Heights, Royal Oak and Novi, downtowns host all things Americana, such as veterans, floats, clowns, marching bands, cheerleaders ... you know the routine. And it's one way to recognize that Memorial Day is about more than backyard barbecues, drunken uncles and sunburn.
