Over four months ago, Henry the Hatter owner Paul Wasserman closed his long-standing Broadway shop with no real idea what would happen to the 124-year-old Detroit business. To be fair, he still operated a Southfield location, but the loss of the famous downtown hat shop still seemed devastating.
Then, in the fall, Wasserman announced the Detroit branch of the hat business would return — this time to Eastern Market. He told the press he hoped to be open in time for Black Friday and the Christmas shopping rush, but as often happens, the build out of his new digs took a little longer than expected.
But, on Friday, Dec. 8, Wasserman celebrated the opening of Henry the Hatter's Eastern Market shop with all the pomp and circumstance such an occasion deserves.
A ribbon cutting ceremony featured Wasserman, general manager Joe Renkiewicz, and Duke Fakir, an original member of the Four Tops. In addition, Detroit Judge Craig Strong showed up to share in the festivities.
The shop is located at 2472 Riopelle St., Detroit. It is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
