Gather Detroit, an Eastern Market-area restaurant that specializes in local foods cooked above a wood-burning grill, is temporarily closed.

Co-owners Kyle Hunt and Leah Hunt opened the restaurant in May along with chef Nate Vogeli, who was not a partner, Eater reports. Kyle Hunt tells Metro Times that Vogeli left the restaurant abruptly, but on good terms.

Jessie Patuano, a former chef at The Root and Torino, will take over the kitchen. Hunt says Gather's concept will remain the same, but the menu is receiving "a complete overhaul." He says to expect more of a focus on seasonality, local sourcing, and veggies, as Patuano brings strong relationships with local farmers.

"But still an approachable neighborhood spot with thoughtful dishes and reasonable prices," Hunt tells us.

He adds that he doesn't have a specific date fort the 34-seat restaurant's relaunch, but it will happen once a few open positions are filled. Our food critic, Jane Slaughter, praised Gather in her July review. We also found the restaurant's wings to be among the city's best.
