Show preview: Melvin Davis and more at Found Sound's Holiday Revue at PJs tomorrow, Sat. Dec. 12

Melvin Davis and Tradition bust out some gut-wrenching, authentic, generation gap-bridging soul music like you are only going to get it right here in Detroit, baby. We don't need NPR to tell us that this is the real deal, and this is no spruced goose. Jeff Tweedy doesn't need to fly in and produce Melvin Davis for him to make the finest contemporary version of old school soul music, and the man is no broken record spinning back songs from yesteryear. He will do old songs if you ask him nicely, but this band he has is very fine, and man, this guy's smiling face should be on billboards.
We should replace that silly tire that greets you as you get close to the city with a huge wooden cutout of Melvin Davis' head.
The fine Ferndale record store Found Sound is throwing a holiday party, and Melvin Davis and Tradition play alongside 3FT, Mega Powers and the Junk Food Junkies. It's tomorrow ni ght, Sat., Dec. 12, and it's only $10, at PJs Lager House
