Drifting returns to Corktown this weekend

We at Metro Times are no strangers to the motorsport of drifting, in which souped-up cars execute long tail slides in tight turns on a tortuous race course. We were there years ago: See our 2007 cover story on the Sno*Drift Performance Rally in outstate Michigan.

These days, however, you don't need to drive out to Lewiston in bone-chilling weather to see drifting; you can see it right in Corktown, where the Midwest Drift Union is hosting a round of its Formula Drift Pro Amateur series for the Midwest region. That's burning rubber, screaming tires, roaring engines and all. This feast for the senses takes place Saturday, Aug. 15, and should draw at least 2,000 people. Have a look at the video from last year for a peek at what's to come.
