We've said it before and we'll say it again: The fashion scene in Detroit is more than a little disjointed. But that doesn't mean that there isn't tremendous talent here. In fact, there are myriad designers working on collections big and small all throughout the area. Some are just getting started, while others already have a big following.
WALK Fashion Show seeks to shed a little light on some designers that are moving and shaking locally. Last November, we talked to the show's creators, Daishawn Franklin and Crystal Bailey about the bi-annual event and how keeping the show upscale as well as in the city of Detroit has been the key to its success.
Now, the 11th edition of WALK is scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 30, reprising its last go-round at the Garden Theater. While the 10th edition featured Project Runway alum Char Glover, this time Franklin and Bailey will be featuring work by eyewear-designer-to-the-stars Steve Boi. Sean "Puffy" Combs and Lady Gaga are a couple of his biggest fans. The show will also feature Detroit-based designer Vino Supraja, who recently presented at Shanghai Fashion Week. All together 34 designers and 150 models will be featured at the show.
WALK Fashion Show takes place on Saturday, May 30 at the Garden Theater. There will be a show at 3 p.m. and a show at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25.
