Chartreuse to open, patio at Gold Cash Gold in the works

Just a few tidbits to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Sandy Levine, owner of Oakland Art Novelty Company and the soon-to-be-opened Chartreuse Kitchen & Bar has announced a hard opening date. It's all set to debut May 19, and owner Levine says, "We can't wait to show you the space, have you order some of Doug's incredible dishes and Kaytee's excellent cocktails." Chartreuse is at 15 E. Kirby St., Detroit.

We hear that there's a patio in the works at Gold Cash Gold. Staffers can't confirm that it will be open for this weekend, but we saw a photo and it looks like a charming space to enjoy one of the most talked-about new restaurant's cuisine al fresco. If you're out in Washtenaw County and can't wait to get the jump on your spring flowers, you might be interested in an event hosted at Arbor Brewing Company. It's called Fruehlingsfest, and it's done in partnership with Growing Hope of Ypsilanti. It's basically a Mother’s Day Plant Sale to benefit the charity, with live music from the Immigrant Sons. It takes place 2-5 p.m. in the Beer Garden, at 720 Norris St., Ypsilanti; 734-480-2739.

Of course, that's well in advance of the really BIG flower day in town, Eastern Market's. It happens every year the week after Mother's Day, and it's the biggest flower market in the area, featuring more than 15 acres of annuals, perennials, foliage, shrubs, trees, exotics, tropical plants, and much more. It takes place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2934 Russell St., Detroit.

The cafe at MOCAD, Café 78, is offering a lot for the senses at their Sunday brunch. This coming Sunday they'll have art, music, food, and shopping. The tunes come from this week's guest DJ, Coconut Babylon, spinning reggae, dub and pan-African music. The shopping is via Paramita, a pop-up record store. The drinks and plates come from the cafe. The art, of course, will be all around you. It's a brunch to remember, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, May 10, at 4454 Woodward Ave., Detroit.
