Breaking bubble tea news: The Detroit Bubble Tea Company is officially open for business.
Though the original plan called for a Saturday, May 30 opening, the husband/wife owner duo decided the demand for bubble tea just could not wait.

Update: Swell news, bubble tea fans: The Detroit Bubble Tea Company is officially opening its doors this month.
Owner Arun Prasad reached out to let us know that the Ferndale storefront will open on Saturday, May 30 for business.
"We wanted to open a long time ago but after about an 80 p[ercent complete buildout and not having insurance, we got hit by the floods hard," Prasad told us via email.
"We had to gut it and restart from scratch. Mind you it was just my wife and I, we have put our life savings into this and put our blood sweat and tears opening this place up!" he said.
So go get your bubble tea fix, and support a local business this weekend.
You'll find it all at 22821 Woodward Ave in Ferndale.

The Detroit Bubble Tea Company has been teasing us for some time regarding their Ferndale storefront open date, but now, it seems, we're in the home stretch. Owners Arun Prasad and Alycia Courneya are promising a May 2015 launch, though a firm date has yet to be set.
Bubble Tea, for reference, is a frothy Taiwanese beverage made with fruit or milk and containing large, chewy tapioca balls at the bottom. Here's a handy graphic from the Detroit Bubble Tea owners themselves:
Prasad and Courneya haven't yet said which varieties their Ferndale location will sport, though they're currently polling virtual visitors on their favorite flavors. You can take their survey here.
