Reminder: Knight Arts Challenge Detroit deadline is April 13

Have a great idea for the arts in Detroit?

Last year, the Knight Arts Challenge Detroit awarded $2.48 million in prize money to 58 different arts ideas, ranging from much-needed renovations to Dabls MBAD African Bead Museum to music mentors for middle and high school students as part of the Detroit Drumline Academy. Once again, they are seeking another round of ideas to fund.

The rules are simple: The idea must involve arts in Detroit, and applicants must find other funding to match the Knight Foundation’s grant. The deadline for this year's contest is midnight on Monday, April 13 — learn more about the Knight Arts Challenge at the official site. Winners will be announced in the fall.

The Knight Foundation will also host a “last minute clinic” from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on April 11 at the MOCAD Café, offering application critiques and other support. Guests are advised to bring two copies of their 150-word pitch.

Below, watch a trailer for Acres of Diamonds, a documentary on the first two years of the Arts Knights Challenge in Detroit. It airs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 on Detroit Public Television WTVS Channel 56.
