Tommy Chong in Hazel Park tomorrow

Just in case you've been hiding under a big rock this week, Tommy Chong will be in town on Saturday for the Monroe Street Fair, the fair that almost everybody except its organizers calls "The Hash Bash." But before you grab your outtasite ol' lady Moonbeam and fire up the vegetable oil-powered VW bus to head out to Ann Arbor, you should know that Chong will be appearing tomorrow afternoon in Hazel Park.

He will be at BDT Smoke Shop, which isn't much of a surprise, considering he's done a voice-over for one of their commercials. They even feature a pipe bearing a resemblance to him in one of their TV ads.

Chong will appear at the store from 2 to 5 p.m. He typically charges $10 for an autograph, so you may want to bring some cash, along with that copy of Big Bambú with the giant rolling paper intact. They are expecting a line, so it makes sense to arrive early, as Chong will be leaving at 5 p.m. sharp no matter what.

At 3 p.m., Hazel Park Mayor Jan Parisi will arrive at the store to give Chong the key to the city. A representative at BDT says Chong is excited about this, as he has never been given the keys to any city before. (They were probably worried Chong would forget and leave the city unlocked.)

BDT is at 21640 John R Rd., Hazel Park; 248-542-6110.
