Good ol' "Honest" John Thompson. Say what you will about him, but he sure knows how to work the media. The newspaper clippings splashed across his recently sold bar attest to a guy who's a one-man PR machine. Of course, we at Metro Times love Detroit history and heritage, of which he's always been a piece, so we can't help writing about him. We've literally written about him (or quoted him) again and again and again and again and again. Of course, go-getting Thompson really sought out the coverage, for his goodwill fund-raising stunts and for his bar, which was recently sold.
Well, we got one last farewell from John, no doubt about our recent Burger Quest visit, on our voice mail. Thanks, and double thanks for thinking of us for that scoop, John. Wish we'd have checked that voice mail sooner!
