Look, we took a year off from the Best Of game and, instead, celebrated our 25th anniversary for our all-around, knockout fall issue of 2005. But now we're back for our 20th Best Of issue, back to remind the latecomers and imitators that we've been at this longer than anyone in town — and know how to do it better. That begins with a bigger and better Readers Poll asking more of your opinions and more of your thoughts on everything from politics to partying.
You may notice that we're limiting voting to the Web only and not printing a ballot in the paper. Why? Because the urge to win has, year after year, brought out cheaters who blatantly fill out ballot after ballot in the same crappy handwriting. Suffice to say, our computer-controlled, one computer ID-one vote approach (at www.metrotimes.com) gives the process more integrity than ever before.
All ballots must be submitted by midnight Sept. 27. Voters must enter a minimum of 20 items for their votes to count — in other words, you may not vote only for your favorite pool hall and consider yourself having done your civic duty. By entering, you'll put yourself in the running for the best Best Of prize around: a prize package worth $1,000 for a valid entry picked at random. And in our Oct. 18 Best Of Detroit issue we'll include your answers and the collective, eccentric wisdom of Metro Times staffers and accomplices to let everyone know what is the Best Of Detroit.
