Sam Valenti IV, the head of Ghostly International Records, splits his time between his Manhattan apartment and this elegant place in downtown Ann Arbor. The building — built in 1888 — abuts the former Ann Arbor Carriage Works and is a classic example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. (The First Congregational Church of Detroit at Forest and Woodward avenues and the Grand Army of the Republic Building at Cass and Grand River avenues are killer examples of the style.) Conveniently close to the Ghostly offices, the apartment's interior — which he shares with roommate Newcombe Clark — is an interesting mix of vintage American crafts and contemporary art and design chic. "I lucked into this place," Valenti says. "I love feeling like I'm living in a piece of history."
